WOODCOTE narrowly lost out to WHITE WALTHAM in the Peter Tyler memorial game on Sunday despite a spirited late rally.
The visitors’ opening pair put them in a strong position, only for the Woodcote bowlers to strike back, aided by some good catching by Ryan van Heerden, wicketkeeper Jonny Clark and an agile and athletic Steve Henderson with one of the catches of the season for the hosts.
White Waltham’s total of 207 was always going to be difficult to chase, but the home side made the task even harder by losing four early wickets, and only JP Brouard’s steady innings, backed up by Van Heerden and Henderson kept them in with a small chance.
Coming in at number nine, James Worsfold made the finish much more exciting, but with his dismissal Woodcote’s hopes vanished and the visitors claimed a well-deserved victory.
