HOSTS GREYS GREEN found themselves at 62-5 against WHITCHURCH on Sunday with Xavier the main destroyer, exploiting to the full a strip which had been covered over the weekend.
The wicket eased and with help from the lower order, Rooke played the dominant role in a recovery which saw Greys Green eventually dismissed on the stroke of tea for 151.
In reply Whitchurch also lost early wickets. Xavier bludgeoned the bowling to make Whitchurch favourites and they neared 100 for the loss of just four wickets.
The game changed when Ahmed dismissed Xavier for 72. Wickets continued to fall and when Whitchurch still needed 18 from their last pairing, it seemed that the Greys Green comeback was complete but youngster J Leach fashioned a mature innings to hit the winning runs as dusk fell.
