HARPSDEN hit the required runs to see off visitors BUTLER XI on Sunday.
The hosts won the toss and took to the field. The visitors started slowly but didn’t lose a wicket seeing off tight opening spells from T Hancock and T Ham.
As the openers got used to the pace of the pitch, runs started to flow, reaching 130 without a loss of the wicket. Eventually the crucial partnership was broken with a fine piece of fielding by C Whittaker running out H Low. His partner, J Marrion carried on seamlessly but was undone by some clever bowling by I Whittaker whose spell of bowling caused the opposition to collapse. The visitors eventually finished on a competitive 186.
In reply Harpsden reached 50 without loss of a wicket. C Fisher was the first to go after some aggressive opening spells from N Mohammed and A Reynolds. J Bradley hit 22 while Lloyd struggled to his 8.
This brought C Whittaker to finish off proceedings with an 18 ball 45 not out. Opener N Sweet showed good form with a solid 81 not out, batting through the innings with Harpsden reaching the required total to win by seven wickets with six overs to spare.
