FOR the second year running, HENLEY U13s lost out to FINCHAMPSTEAD U13s in the final of the Berkshire Cup.
On a batting friendly pitch at Boyne Hill on Friday the Finchampstead batsmen were quick to exploit both the short boundaries and the fast outfield and were soon hitting the Henley bowlers to all corners.
In the previous four rounds, Henley’s bowling and fielding had been exemplary and no team had managed to score more than 100 from their accurate and consistent attack.
However, this accuracy and consistency was absent on the night of the final. It was only when Connell joined the attack that Henley were able to apply any degree of pressure.
When opportunities did arise, Henley’s usually reliable fielding let them down both with a series of dropped catches and a clear opportunity to run out one of the Finchampstead opening batsmen. Finchampstead batted well and amassed 159-3 wickets off their 20 overs. Connell and Henley’s man-of-the-match M Bradbury took the wickets, the latter taking two.
