Visitors fall short of Checkendon target

A HIGH-SCORING friendly at CHECKENDON on Sunday saw visitors CELERIACS concede 218 runs in 44 overs thanks to consistent batting from the home side with John Green, Jon Westcar, Stewart Manning and Matt Heslop all making valuable contributions.

Seamer Neil Smith was the most successful bowler, taking 3-44.

Celeriacs replied robustly, thanks to skipper John Acland-Hood’s 69, which included 11 fours, and Jack Hoyle’s 45.

Acland-Hood’s dismissal turned the game in favour of Checkendon as returning opening bowlers John Green and Tony Breakspear subsequently took the last five wickets to dismiss the visitors for 202.
