Harris’ knock not enough

GREYS GREEN ran out narrow winners at STONOR on Sunday in a match played on a fast, true wicket with the result in doubt until the final wicket.

Put in to bat, Greys Green made a reasonable start against a testing opening spell from S Harris and Warren and at 36-2 the visitors needed to re-build their innings. This was done firstly through Holroyd who hit 41 and then with a stand between Shafqat and Cusden but it still needed a late flurry from Rooke to lift the Greys Green total to 190-5 at the end of their overs.

With a fast outfield, Stonor’s target was quite attainable but Greys Green made early inroads through Rooke who swung the ball considerably in his spell of 4-24. I Harris reached his half-century, abetted by Denton and Williams.

When I Harris played on to Shafqat for 55, the odds were in the visitors’ favour but, despite two wickets apiece by Shafqat and Knight, good batting by S Harris brought Stonor back into the game to the point where, with two wickets remaining, only 17 were required from five overs.

In a tense finish, the return of Ahmed to the fray proved decisive, bowling S Harris for 44 and leaving the visitors victorious.
