Tourists’ mixed fortunes

CHECKENDON’S annual Sussex tour began with a 40-over game at NEWICK.

On a good batting pitch and sloping outfield the home team scored freely, especially during the unbroken fifth wicket partnership between Liam Davies and Jon Douglas, both of whom made 66 as Newick reached 212-4.

Checkendon responded in kind thanks to Stewart Manning’s 97 and an undefeated half-century from John Acland-Hood which enabled the visitors to secure victory with 2.3 overs remaining and five wickets in hand.
