Spinner’s five-wicket haul does damage
WILL LEGG took five wickets as PEPPARD STOKE ROW KITES defeated BRAYWOOD in a 40-over fixture on Sunday.

After Vines and Nicholson had mistimed early aerial drives off Bennett it was Asquith and Watts who rebuilt the innings with a 62-run partnership.

After Watts holed out looking to accelerate with 20 overs remaining, Braywood’s bowlers continued to take regular wickets. After Asquith departed for a well-made 38 with the score on 93, the Kites were at risk of not posting a competitive total.

However, Kites’ skipper Richard Ashton and Ruaridh Scott were able to muster a 39-run last wicket partnership before the innings closed on 171 with one over of the 40 remaining, with 60 of these runs coming in sixes. In reply Braywood struggled to muster a decent partnership after Khan was out for a belligerent 31 to Will Legg’s offspin. At the other end, his father Gary bowled a tight eight over spell to begin the innings, conceding a miserly 21 runs for two wickets off his eight over allocation to halt the home side’s progress.

Ashton’s catch in the deep saw off the dangerous Ali and meant that the home side lost their seventh wicket at the same stage of their innings as the Kites.
