HARPSDEN beat PERIVALE PHOENICIANS comfortably on Saturday as Christian Whittaker continued his fine form scoring an unbeaten 99.
Harpsden lost the early wickets of Sasha Burgess and Justin Bradley to the accurate medium pace of A Khan.
The loss of Zac Jones (34) brought in-form Christian Whittaker to the crease. Once Sam Imlay (47) had been run out at the non-striker’s end Whittaker, who had played defensively until this point, took control of the innings. He took 25 runs in a single over towards the end of the innings as Harpsden accelerated to 260-5 from their 40 overs.
Whittaker only missed out on his hundred as, with two balls remaining, he mistakenly believed he was on 99. He ran a single off the penultimate ball and turned down a possible second, which denied him back to back hundreds.
The Perivale batsmen played aggressively in the face of accurate bowling from Johnny Wright and Edward Birkett.
