Hosts fall to youthful bowling

VISITING WHITCHURCH for a 35-over match on Sunday, CHECKENDON opener Jack Hoyle made light of damp ground conditions, hitting a quickfire 87 and sharing a first wicket stand of 105 with Jon Westcar in only 15 overs.

Medium pacer Ben Karlo brought the home team back into the game with a spell of 4-11 but Checkendon still reached a respectable 182-9.

The Whitchurch innings began badly for the batsmen thanks to the swing bowling of Sam Arrowsmith who took 2-7 in seven overs.

M Kilford top scored for the home side with 39 but the variety of Checkendon’s mainly youthful bowling attack, allied to athletic fielding, resulted in Whirtchurch being dismissed for 125 in 31.3 overs.
