Barnes century helps put Henley in the driving seat
AFTER three abortive attempts, thwarted by the weather and Banbury CC, Henley got their season going with an emphatic win against newly-promoted Harefield.
Winning the toss, Harefield skipper Simon Macey had little hesitation in opting to bowl on a deck which had spent much of the previous week covered up against the elements.
Rather unconventionally, Harefield started with the spin of 15-year-old Odgen who belied his years with a tight and tidy performance, whilst seamer King operated from the Pavilion End.
But the Henley openers, Michael Roberts and David Barnes, made an untroubled start and by the 10th over, when Chibhabha replaced King, had rattled up 42 runs.
Chibhabha, however, turned out to be the sort of bowler ideally suited to exploit early game conditions - fast medium with the ability to angle the ball in into good areas and make the batsmen play him.
