Duo bag trio of accolades

KARAN Shah and Jason Vaughan-Davies both won three trophies as Peppard Stoke Row Cricket Club held their end-of-season awards night on Saturday.

Left-arm spinner Shah crowned an excellent first season at the club by being named first team players’ player and bowler of the year, having taken 28 wickets at an average of just 13.25.

The Hong Kong international also received a prize for his maiden Peppard Stoke Row five-wicket haul, 7-44 at Purley.

South African Kyle Tappan won batsman of the year award having enjoyed a productive second half of the campaign to end on
497 runs at 31.05.

The powerful Vaughan-Davies, among the top 10 run scorers in the entire Thames Valley League with 822, was almost unanimously crowned second team players’ player.

He doubled up with the batting trophy having amassed 769 runs at 69 for the team, including three centuries, and was also the Play-Cricket most valuable player.

George Lee, back from a lengthy break, did a third team double as batsman and players’ player having scored 428 runs, Christopher Proudfoot’s
21 wickets securing him the bowling gong. The Sunday awards went to Sam Franklin who averaged 78 for the Rajputs, and Mark Lambert for the Maharanicorns.

Daniel Watts’ 18 fielding dismissals were the most in the club, while The Oratory School-sponsored young player of the year award was won by Harry Lotery, who was the second top scorer in the club with 671.

The most improved player went to Ed Bloomer, who had a bowling average of eight and a league batting one of 38.5 for the third team, his match-winning unbeaten 39 at Woodcote in the final game sealing promotion for Sam Kimber’s Buffaloes.

Maiden century tankards were won by Seb Kingsbury, Dan Bacon, Jasper Gilbey, George Godfrey and U15 Dom Ellis, while first-time five-wicket hauls were recognised for Shah, Albie Tomlinson, Dom Proudfoot, Farzan Moin, Danny McAllister, Keagan Shepherd, Ben Rumble and James Howes.

Clubman of the year was won by long-serving Matt Kimber, who contributed as a player for the third team, ran the bar and was also heavily involved with grounds preparation among other support.
