Herefordshire take the honours as hosts narrowly fail to hold on
BERKSHIRE put up a gritty, resolute performance before conceding defeat to HEREFORDSHIRE in their Unicorns Championship match at Finchampstead this week.
Led by centurion Richard Morris, Berkshire defied their visitors for 110 overs, falling just eight overs short of holding out for a draw.
Set an improbable target of 400 to win the game, they were bowled out for 236 in their second innings, so losing the game by 163 runs.
Skipper James Morris said: “Berkshire Cricket has always prided itself on how hard they fight. It showed when we forced a draw with Wales, but unfortunately this was a game which didn’t quite work out for us, but we can all be proud of the way we fought all the way to the end.”
Their final home match of the season looked like ending early on Tuesday when Berkshire slumped to 27-3.
