HARPSDEN won the toss and elected to bat against SONNING COMMON in Sunday’s 35-over match.
Justin Bradley and Zac Jones started cautiously, against tight opening spells from the Sonning Common bowlers. After 10 overs Harpsden lost their first wicket with 30 on the board. This seemed to spark Jones who brought up his half century whilst being well supported by 14-year-old Dan Jordan.
When Jordan departed, Jones was fed the strike by partner Will Stevens and quickly brought up his century with a number of blows to the boundary.
Having seen Jones retire the Sonning Common fielders were looking for a break from chasing the ball around the outfield. This was not to be the case as Sasha Burgess kept the scoreboard moving with a knock of 40 again supported by Stevens who ended 38 not out.
The Sonning Common reply started well with skipper Pitson striking a number of boundaries. When he fell victim to Rod Birkett the scoring came to a standstill, brought about by the tight bowling from Alex Bradley. Gallimore struck some boundaries late on but eventually Harpsden ran out winners by 74 runs.
