Visitors retain trophy

SONNING COMMON VILLAGE recorded a 14-run win to retain the Roger Choules Memorial Cup at HIGHMOOR on Sunday.

The visitors were asked to bat first and found scoring difficult on a soft pitch to start with.

Skipper Chris Pitson and Howard Cook gave Sonning Common a steady start but it was Chris Gallimore who provided the acceleration to the innings making 58. He was well supported by Luke Pitson and some of the tail, and it was Gallimore’s aggression that enabled Sonning Common to post a competitive score. Rizmy and Miraque were the pick of the Highmoor bowlers.

In reply Highmoor made a good start and after 10 overs it looked like they would have no trouble in reaching the target, especially with Rizmy at the crease. He was in control until he was bowled by Chris Pitson for 31.

Following Rizmy’s dismissal, Highmoor lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to keep up with the run rate.
