HARPSDEN ran out victors in their derby match against TURVILLE by 84 runs on Saturday.
Harpsden won the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts suffered the early loss of Sasha Burgess to a run out by James Hunt but then made serene progress as Zac Jones and Christian Whittaker took control.
Hunt took the key wickets of Jones and Whittaker. Apart from Hunt only Charlie Beardell managed to exert control over the Harpsden batsmen and good acceleration from Sam Imlay and Will Stevens enabled Harpsden to set a challenging 260-6 from their 40 overs.
Turville lost both openers early to left-armer Ed Birkett and this brought Charlie Beardell to the crease. Some resolute defence coupled with a number of cover drives from Beardell kept Turville in the game and when he and skipper Hancock were together it looked like Turville may have a chance of threatening the Harpsden total.
A catch from Ian Whittaker, diving at full strength in the slips, dismissed Jonny Hancock off the bowling of James Brooks.
