HURLEY ended their season with defeat away to WIDMER END ST MARGARETS on Sunday.
Matt Hampton won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first on a green pitch.
The opening attack of Imran Arshad and Steve Taylor failed to make a breakthrough although Taylor was unfortunate not to dismiss Van der Merwe who lofted down the ground to Mo Basharat who lost the ball in the sun just as he looked to take the catch.
Basharat and Dave Walton replaced the opening attack and made inroads into the Widmer End batting. Van der Merwe was the first to go, getting a bottom edge to Basharat which was caught low down by keeper Mike Walton. Basharat then accounted for the other opener Hobbs caught by Steve Taylor at gully.
Dave Walton struck twice to reduce the hosts to 90-4 and with Basharat bowling Hatt for a duck, Widmer End were struggling at 90-5.
