THE Berkshire women’s cricket team is leaving the cold behind them to spend five days in La Manga on Sunday where they will train and play five matches against a young Ireland squad. Two will be two 50-overs games and three Twenty20 matches.
The Berkshire party includes spinner Fi Morris, who will spend this year on loan from Gloucestershire. Last season the spinner played in the England under-19 team along with Berkshire’s Lissy Macleod.
Last year’s loan player, wicket-keeper Carla Rudd, has now joined the royal county on a permanent basis. Berkshire will be captained by England Test batsman Heather Knight. Sherisa Gumbs, who played for women’s and men’s teams at Reading last season, and Georgina Dean are both 16-year-olds.
Berkshire women will be based at Wokingham as from next season, with several of their players also playing club cricket for Wokingham Ridgeway, alongside new signing Charlotte Edwards, the England women’s captain.
Edwards, however, is expected to stay with the Kent county side and not switch to Berkshire.
The full party is: Heather Knight, Lissy Macleod, Daisy Gardner, Alex Rogers, Carla Rudd, Rosie Inns, Sherisa Gumbs, Linsey Smith, Nicole Beasley, Georgina Dean, Fi Morris, Imogen Brown.
