Beardall helps side to comfortable win

TURVILLE PARK elected to bowl first in their first match of the season at home to PENN STREET.

TURVILLE PARK elected to bowl first in their first match of the season at home to PENN STREET.

Early success with the new ball for both Tom White and Paul Girdler reduced Penn Street to 22—8 before some late order hitting by O Andrews raised the total to a respectable 171—9.

The remaining wickets were shared between Nick Henry, Dave Stockings and an instinctive run out by Paul Girdler while Colin Simon took a sharp catch at first slip.

With no total easy to chase this early in the season, Colin Simon and Harry Beardall calmly set about reducing the target.

Having played themselves in, both attacked the bowling with increasingly expansive shots as they raced to a 100-run opening partnership. With Simon eventually succumbing to the off-spin of C Fletcher, James Hunt arrived at the crease to help Beardall finish the match in a hurry.
