JEZ MAYO was the hero at STONOR on Sunday as the hosts beat TWYFORD AND RUSCOMBE by 83 runs.

Mayo was introduced to the attack with the Twyford score at 50—2, in response to Stonor’s 184—6, and took five wickets for 18 runs in the space of six accurate and economical overs.

All of his wickets were caught, three of them off his own bowling and Twyford collapsed to 101 all out.

Earlier, Ian Harris and Marc Lovatt had rescued Stonor from a mini-collapse at 24—2. Their partnership of 114 in 25 overs laid the foundations for the Stonor innings and allowed the later batsmen to swing the bat and post a total that would be difficult to reach on a pitch with some variable bounce.

Harris, dropped on seven, went on to make 78 whilst Lovatt hit 54.

Twyford’s reply started well, with Teal quick out of the blocks and Wodman giving him useful support.

Once Scott Harris had dismissed both openers only Walkland’s 24 and Burgess with 16 offered any real resistance to the bowlers.

Stonor’s fielders provided good back-up to their bowlers, allowing Mayo (5—18) and John Powell to polish off the Twyford tail with five overs remaining.
