Wheeler wraps up narrow friendly win

HENLEY got their pre-season under way with a narrow one-run victory away to ECB Middlesex Premier League side EALING last

HENLEY got their pre-season under way with a narrow one-run victory away to ECB Middlesex Premier League side EALING last Saturday.

Henley won the toss and batted first recovering from 40—6 to finish all out in the 44th over (of 45) for 144 thanks to Dave Barnes (67) and Ben Francis (35).

In reply, Ealing cruised to 86—2 in 20 overs and looked a shoe-in for victory only to collapse to 145 all out in the 39th over, thanks in the main to the spin and guile of Gurveer Singh who finished with impressive figures of 5—17.

Singh also produced a scintillating run out to take the ninth wicket and Simon Wheeler (2—27) wrapped things up to take the last wicket and clinch victory by a single run.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Henley travel to Aston Rowant of Division 2 West of the Home Counties Premier League whilst Henley 2nds entertain their Aston Rowant counterparts. Henley 3rds also make the journey to Aston Rowant. Australian U19 and Australia A spinner Ashton Agar and Hampshire all-rounder Hamza Riazuddin are likely to make their debuts in the last warm-up game before Henley’s Home Counties Premier League Division 1 season starts on May 11 at home to reigning champions High Wycombe.
