Rooke’s bowling exploits in vain

A HALF-CENTURY from Butler steered GREYS GREEN to a comfortable six-wicket victory at CRAZIES HILL on Sunday.

A HALF-CENTURY from Butler steered GREYS GREEN to a comfortable six-wicket victory at CRAZIES HILL on Sunday.

Having been put into bat, Crazies Hill got off to a poor start, losing Margrie in the second over and, after a couple of lusty blows, Mike Simpson in the eight.

Debutant Pritchard-Gordon and Parker began to rebuild the innings, until Parker sliced a drive to point off Rooke having added 39 for the third wicket.

When Montgomery was bowled in Rooke’s next over and Pritchard-Gordon was caught behind in the following over, Crazies Hill were in danger of not surviving until tea at 75-5.

Despite some occasional boundaries from Stuart and Levin, the remaining batsmen could not find any rhythm on the slow pitch and succumbed quickly, with Rooke taking 6-46 in the process as the hosts were dismissed for 95.

Greys Green started circumspectly. With Levin bowling tightly and Searle taking two quick wickets, the visitors gave the hosts some hope of defending their total when they were reduced to 26-2. Butler began to show greater fluidity and, ably supported by Knight, took the attack to the Crazies Hill bowlers.

When Hanton removed Knight with the score on 74, there was a last chance for a dramatic fight back from Crazies Hill but Butler put paid to this. Despite losing Hunt with the scores tied, Butler saw Greys Green home.
