Shiplake march on

SHIPLAKE College’s junior teams are making good progress in the Oxfordshire Cup competitions this season.

SHIPLAKE College’s junior teams are making good progress in the Oxfordshire Cup competitions this season.

With the U14 and U15 teams already through to the semi-final the U13s also have a chance of a semi-final place, if the weather finally permits them to play their quarter-final versus King Alfred’s School.

Away to Lord Williams’ School, Thame, Alex Bradley made the most of bowler-friendly conditions when he took 5-15 in just four overs for the U15s. Two wickets for both Harry Ibbitson and Ed Warren helped to dismiss the home team for just 62.

The chase should have been straightforward but Shiplake lost wickets frequently as they limped along to a three-wicket victory.

The U14As were as watchful of showers and the covers when they welcomed Cheney School. Batting through some heavy rain Cheney made 126-6 with Finn Arbuckle taking 3-27 and Sammy Mendis a miserly 2-6.

In reply Henry Atkinson (43) and Will Gresswell (32) gave Shiplake the impetus to win by six wickets with five balls to spare.

The U14s now travel to Bloxham School for their semi-final with the U15s hosting Abingdon School.
