CHECKENDON narrowly lost out at home to OLD ASHFORDIANS on Sunday.

The visitors batted first and put on 179-5 declared in 41 overs on an easy-paced pitch at Checkendon with Vidyerthy and Hendley both scoring half centuries despite steady bowling from the hosts.

A 45-run partnership between John Acland-Hood and Chetan Yalambalse gave Checkendon the basis for a successful reply. A hard-hitting 58 from newcomer Raj Kant took the hosts close to their target but the last wicket fell with Checkendon needing four runs.
