Woodcote wickets go cheaply in rare defeat

WOODCOTE’S Sunday team suffered their first defeat since April at WALTHAM ST LAWRENCE last Sunday.

WOODCOTE’S Sunday team suffered their first defeat since April at WALTHAM ST LAWRENCE last Sunday.

Put in to bat on a damp and difficult wicket, they made slow progress, taking 10 overs to reach 20 against some accurate bowling.

A good second wicket partnership between Pete Roberts and Paul Knox accelerated the run rate but wickets fell cheaply in the middle order and it was left to Fahad Saeed to hit some lusty blows to give some respectability to the final score.

When they batted, Waltham never really looked in any trouble and, although all six Woodcote bowlers returned respectable figures, the third wicket partnership between Sharpe and Ali paved the way for a home win in 25 overs.

WOODCOTE’S fourth defeat in five Downs Midweek League matches, at the hands of DIDCOT, has left the reigning champions in the relegation zone.

In murky conditions at Woodcote last Wednesday Didcot hit 149-6 with skipper, Jonny Clark returning the best figures taking 2 for 18.

Woodcote were all out for 110 in the final over. James Wheeler top scored with 31 and Jonny Aldridge (13) was the only other batsman to reach double figures.
