Runkel saves the day

NEIL RUNKEL’S spin helped TURVILLE PARK run out winners at home to FLYCATCHERS last Sunday.

NEIL RUNKEL’S spin helped TURVILLE PARK run out winners at home to FLYCATCHERS last Sunday.

Home skipper James Hunt won the toss and put the opposition into field on a hot and dry afternoon.

Flycatchers made some early inroads as Turville were quickly reduced to 19-2.

Ollie Thornton and Tim Wade came together at this point and added 133 in just 23 overs. Turville looked set for 250 until Flycatchers exerted good pressure through the spin of Hooper and took 7-72 off the next 18 overs. Turville closed on 205-9.

The Flycatchers’ response got off to a good start as they raced to 109-2 off 20 overs.

However, spin bowling came to the rescue, first halting and then reversing the onslaught.

After an uncertain start (0-20 off his first three overs) Runkel was at his very best to finish with the match-winning figures of 6-40 off 10 overs. This included one spell of five overs containing a wicket in each of them.

Charlie Beardall was extracting sharp turn at the other end to return figures of 2-23 off nine overs, including two return catches as Flycatchers were all out for 156.
