CRAZIES HILL AND COCKPOLE GREEN came away triumphant from their short trip to HURLEY on Sunday.

CRAZIES HILL AND COCKPOLE GREEN came away triumphant from their short trip to HURLEY on Sunday.

Mike Walton won the toss and sent out Alan and David Morgans to open the innings for the hosts. After a wayward first over, Will Anthony used his left arm seam bowling to good effect, producing a late swinging delivery to find David Morgans’ middle stump.

Parvinder Hunjan got off the mark with a boundary but was adjudged lbw four balls later. The Hurley skipper joined Morgans in the middle and the pair set about re-building the innings. The partnership added 72 in 24 overs and was only broken when Morgans was run out.

Colin Parker bowled Jeff Dawson before Scott Taylor hit a couple of boundaries but was then caught at slip by Rees Simpson off the bowling of his brother Ollie.

Anush Choudhary, Greg Double and Paul Todd all perished in the attempt to speed up the run rate. In all 30 runs were added in the final five overs before tea as Hurley declared on 157-9 with Walton ending unbeaten on a career best 70.

The visitors’ openers, Harry Swift and Colin Parker started circumspectly against Hunjan and Dave Walton with only one run coming off the first five overs.

Both batsmen pushed the accelerator to take the score to 42 in the 13th over when Swift stepped across his stumps in front of a straight delivery from Hunjan.

Paul Todd struck with his first delivery as Brian Schofield chopped the ball on to his stumps. Todd followed up with the wicket of Parker in his next over, diving forward to take a low catch off his own bowling.

This brought the two Wills, Anthony and Schofield, together needing another 73 runs for victory with the last hour approaching. Both batted well to bring their side within two runs of victory when Hunjan trapped Anthony lbw.

With two runs still needed, Schofield skied a Dave Walton delivery to mid-wicket where Greg Double failed to take the catch. Mike Simpson hit the winning run for the visitors.
