HOSTS WOODCOTE won the local derby against CHECKENDON on Sunday by eight wickets.

Asked to bat first the visitors posted a big score in which Jonny Westcar and S Prakash shared a century partnership. With other batsmen chipping in, Checkendon looked in a strong position at tea. Woodcote’s most successful bowlers were skipper, Jonny Aldridge (3-27) and Pete Roberts (3-33).

Woodcote’s innings started slowly with little to indicate that a win was possible, but once Jonny Clark came to the wicket the whole complexion of the match changed.

Clark never looked in any trouble and played some fine shots to all parts of the ground. He received good support from Mike Stroker who also helped himself to a half-century. These two shared a century partnership and stayed together to secure the victory.
