Gopi shines for hosts

HOSTS HIGHMOOR just managed to pass the NETTLEBED total to win a thrilling game despite wickets tumbling last Sunday.

Nettlebed batted first and looked to be going well with the openers scoring freely before Luke Wells removed them both after an hour’s play. This brought Tim Vines to the wicket and he began ominously with a big score looking likely.

With the introduction of debutant Gopi, the whole game changed. Gopi removed Vines and then instigated a batting collapse with a devastating spell of five overs which saw him take seven wickets for just 16 runs. Nettlebed were all out for 132.

The Highmoor openers of Rizmy and Shamil set off in pursuit of the target and quickly put on 42 for the first wicket helped by some dropped catches.

Shamil took advantage of the situation with some lusty blows and quick running and saw the home team get to within 30 runs of victory before he was dismissed by Vines. This caused panic amongst the Highmoor batsmen and wickets began to fall which saw the Nettlebed players transformed. However, Alan Mayers hit 25 to nearly see his side to victory and with tension high Pete Choules mustered the winning runs.
