BASEMENT side HENLEY 2nds lost their 14th Division 1 match of the campaign at EVERSLEY in the final match of the season on Saturday.
Winning the toss the hosts batted first and put on 240-7 with A Parker top scoring with 129 not out. Henley’s Dan Hayden finished with figures of 5-82.
In reply Henley were dismissed in just over 32 overs for 130 runs.
KIDMORE END missed out on promotion to the top flight after drawing at home to THATCHAM TOWN in Division 2B.
The hosts won the toss and batted first with Joe Waldron and Tom Sheldon putting on 44 runs off the first seven overs before both fell in their 20s.
The middle order failed to get going as batsmen number three to six could not hang around to make significant scores. After 30 overs Kidmore End were 110-6.
Alex Crawford (29) and Hafeez Ul Wahab (29) added vital runs as Kidmore End were eventually bowled out for 189 in 52 overs.
In reply Peter Jones and Alex Crawford chipped away at the Thatcham line-up with Jones taking the first three wickets.
Skipper Jeff Sheldon changed the bowling regularly in an attempt to take wickets. Frost managed to have Johnson caught in the gully by Joe Dixon which made the score 79-4 at drinks and the half way stage.
The game was evenly balanced but fine batting from S Gibson (50), J O’Flynn (45) and C Wright (37) were thorns in Kidmore’s side.
Crawford then took the vital wickets of O’Flynn and Wright in quick succession and with just 10 overs remaining Kidmore piled on the pressure.
Abi Ul Wahab bowled five overs and was rewarded with a wicket. A run out thanks to a good throw from Kidmore End’s Ashby meant there were three balls left in the season with 10 runs needed for a Thatcham victory and just the one wicket for Kidmore End’s victory.
However, the remaining balls were blocked as Kidmore End finished runners-up in the table to Yateley.
HENLEY 3rds ended their Division 3A campaign with a defeat at HURST. Batting first the visitors were skittled out for 162. In reply the hosts eased to victory with a knock of 165-6.
M Sohi and R Kniveton were both undefeated with knocks of 106 and 74 respectively as WARGRAVE gained promotion as runners-up in Division 4 at home to COVE 2nds. Losing the toss the visitors batted first and were bowled out for 187 with S French taking 5-18. In reply Wargrave knocked off the required runs without losing a wicket as they finished on 191-0.
A draw at Division 6B champions STOKE GREEN 2nds for KIDMORE END 2nds saw them finish in fifth place. Kidmore lost the toss and found themselves fielding first. Stoke Green opening batsmen Clive Bourne and Gul Khan started well against Kidmore’s new ball pairing of Assad Ul Haq and Mike Jones and had put on 48 for the first wicket when change bowler Ben Berryman induced an outside edge from Khan who was well held at second slip by Mark New.
Ul Haq also struck removing Bourne and clean bowled the next over. The game moved along at a sedate pace as Stoke Green found themselves on 137-6 in the 40th over. The hosts ended their innings on 242-9 with Ul Haq taking 5-69.
Kidmore’s opening pair of Chris Pigden and Mark New got the side off to a solid start putting on 91 before Pigden was out getting a high leading edge as he was caught and bowled by Nadeem Hussain.
New continued to steer Kidmore along and with support from brother David and Rob Shaw kept the visitors in the hunt for the winning total. However, the wicket was proving increasingly difficult to score and as David New and Rob Shaw were dismissed in the 40th and 41st over and with Mark New out with four overs remaining for 61 the match ended in a draw.
