Rain halts side’s final match of campaign

WOODCOTE travelled to wet and windy WHITE WALTHAM on Sunday to complete their season.

WOODCOTE travelled to wet and windy WHITE WALTHAM on Sunday to complete their season.

This was a new fixture for the club arranged in memory of Peter Tyler, a Woodcote member who had also umpired for White Waltham on many occasions.

Openers Crawford Anderson and Simon Fuller got the visitors off to a good start with a half century partnership, but wickets began to tumble when Ratcliff came into the attack for the home side.

The slow bowler tempted six batsmen into rash shots and, at the age of 72, finished with 6-34. Fortunately, three batsmen in the lower order got into double figures enabling Woodcote to post a respectable total.

After tea, the home side were soon in trouble against the pace of Pearson and the spin of Worsfold.

By the time the rain came to end proceedings Woodcote were well on top with change bowlers Roberts and Aldridge providing few run-scoring opportunities.
