Nugent piles on runs for visitors

CRAZIES HILL’S season ended in defeat at home to HARPSDEN last Sunday.

CRAZIES HILL’S season ended in defeat at home to HARPSDEN last Sunday.

Having won the toss and electing to field the hosts kept Harpsden in check, thanks to some tidy bowling from Searle. When he removed Bradley and Hancock and Margrie had Brian stumped by Mike Simpson, Harpsden’s innings was in the balance at 72-3.

However, when Nugent joined Imlay the match swung towards Harpsden, as both batsmen took the attack to the bowlers. Nugent, the main aggressor, blasted his way past 50 with a straight six off Margrie.

Despite Ben Scholfield removing Imlay and Morgan for a duck in the space of three balls Nugent continued to plunder the Crazies’ bowling, until caught in the deep by Searle off Dan Hanton, who also removed the reverse sweeping Whittaker for a quick-fire 28, leaving the hosts a target of 229 to win.

Crazies Hill’s innings got off to an ignominious start as T Stevens removed Mike Simpson, Brian Scholfield and Pritchard-Gordon to leave them 10-3.

Swift led a gradual rebuilding of the Crazies Hill innings, until W Stevens removed Reiss Simpson and Harper in the space of five balls to leave them reeling at 39-5. When W Stevens removed Swift in his next over and Margrie in his subsequent over, the hosts were almost down and out at 60-7. Briefly Ben Scholfield led a fightback, taking 23 off an over from Sweet, until forced to retire hurt having been hit by the returning T Stevens. Despite cameos from Steve Hanton and Searle, Crazies wilted to 111 all out with T Stevens finishing with 5-21.
