New name for league

LAST season’s Premier Division champions Peppard Stoke Row begin their new campaign a week tomorrow (May

LAST season’s Premier Division champions Peppard Stoke Row begin their new campaign a week tomorrow (May 2) in the newly renamed Wintech Berkshire League when they host Mortimer West End.

The league reached an agreement with Nasim Amin of Wintech Sports â?? a company that help sports clubs to purchase bespoke garments â?? for a one-year sponsorship deal which both sides hope can be extended beyond 2015.

This season there will be 48 teams in the league from 27 clubs in five divisions.

The only new club is Falkland from Newbury, whose development squad will be in Division 3. Two established clubs have entered new teams, namely Emmbrook and Bearwood 3rds and Hawley 2nds.

Reigning Premier Division champions, Peppard Stoke Row will start as favourites to retain their title, but a number of other clubs will fancy their chances, especially runners-up Sulhamstead and Woodcote.

The League’s Representative team will be in action twice during the season. On June 14 they will play the annual champions challenge match against reigning champions, Peppard Stoke Row. The match will be at Peppard Common and the home club will be trying to emulate the feat of Sulhamstead who in 2014 became the first club to defeat the ‘pick of the league’.

The other representative match will be on July 19 when the representative side will play a T20 challenge match against hosts Wargrave.
