A POOR batting performance by HURLEY saw them lose by six wickets to WIDMER END on Sunday.
On a good wicket they could only muster 125 with only three players making double figures.
Although openers Shoaib and Shakil Kayani made slow progress there was little to suggest a collapse was on the cards as they reached 22 from the first 11 overs.
Dave Parsons made the breakthrough when Shakil was adjudged lbw. Jono Patrick fell to the next delivery, also lbw. Soon after Parsons got through Shoaib Kayani’s defences, leaving Hurley in trouble.
Only seven more runs were added for the next two wickets with John Wyatt having Ross Brown caught at mid-wicket and Theo Patrick caught at the third attempt by Hobbs at slip.
Fayyaz Kayani joined Mike Walton in the middle and hit 45 from 25 deliveries in a 50-run partnership. Kayani could not maintain the onslaught, holing out to a catch on the mid-wicket boundary by Cameron Parsons off Wyatt.
Walton tried to eke out the innings as long as possible and 39 more runs were added for the last three wickets with Barradell-Pither and Mo Basharat giving valuable support.
The Widmer End reply started in a similar slow fashion as the openers struggled against the pace of Fayyaz and Brown. Hobbs was the first to go, edging Fayyaz to the keeper. Hurley thought they had Russell caught behind off Fayyaz but the umpire ruled otherwise but his reprieve only lasted two deliveries before he dragged a Fayyaz delivery on to his stumps.
Basharat replaced Brown at the Shepherds Lane end and soon put Bryant out of his misery with an in-swinging Yorker.
A wicket for Dave Walton put the game in the balance at 56-4. A tidy spell of bowling by Theo Patrick made the batsmen work for their runs, but Cameron Parsons and skipper John Hatt saw their side home with 10 overs to spare.
