Clark and Lennard put on Sunday best for Woodcote

WOODCOTE’S Sunday side began their season with a comfortable win at SONNING.

WOODCOTE’S Sunday side began their season with a comfortable win at SONNING.

Batting first on a good wicket Crawford Anderson and Ryan Lennard ran well between the wicket to put 31 on the board before Anderson missed a straight one to fall lbw.

Simon Fuller followed soon after to a catch by the bowler, only to bring in Jonny Clark (61) who, together with Lennard (72), took the game by the scruff of the neck and advanced the score until they almost had a century partnership. Both batsmen hit the ball to all parts of the ground but eventually fell to catches by Ben Travers.

More quick wickets followed but Woodcote were grateful to Adam Burgess, who survived an early chance to play an entertaining innings, at almost a run a ball, which saw them pass the 200 mark. Both opening bowlers were economical but F Travers took the honours with four wickets.

Opening bowlers Sean Bell and Connor Mattimore were pacey and accurate and put pressure on the Sonning batsmen and with four wickets down the game looked to be Woodcote’s for the taking.

There then came a revival by the fifth wicket pair, but once that wicket fell there was only going to be one result, and a fine spell by debutant spinner Jaimee Jose, backed up by Mark Pearson and Clark, made sure that Woodcote cruised to victory.
