AN opening stand of 76 in only 11 overs put CHECKENDON on course for a big total in their 40 overs friendly at home to WHITCHURCH on Sunday.

John Acland-Hood hit 37 and Jon Westcar went on to make 85, an innings that included three sixes and 11 fours.

However, the steady medium pace bowling of Lyn Williams and Ben Kosler brought the visitors back into the game and the home side were dismissed for 186 with four overs not bowled.

The Checkendon seam attack matched the accuracy of their opponents, limiting scoring opportunities.

Spinners Tom Winter and Harry Wickens then turned the game, taking six wickets between them as Whitchurch were bowled out for 148.
