WALLINGFORD ran out winners against HIGHMOOR on Sunday in the Gary Wells memorial match. Wells was a former player of both clubs.

Wallingford won the toss and elected to bat. After two early wickets M Carey joined Ainsworth in a stand that took the score towards 200. Ainsworth retired on 100. Ian Harris then had Carey stumped for 72.

This brought about a collapse with five wickets falling for nine runs. The innings closed on 205-8.

Poor catching cost Highmoor dearly as Rizmy returned the best bowling fixtures of 3-35. Steve Wells also chipped in with 1-5.

In reply Shamil fished at one outside off stump, caught behind for three in Hopkins’ first over.

Luke Wells and Rizmy took control with some fine strokes and big hitting but both got themselves out when well set.

Highmoor struggled against the varied slow bowling and only Owen Crawshay, who played soundly for his 37 and Ian Harris’s quick fire 21 at number 10, made any impact as the innings closed on 166 all out.
