Skilleter in fine form

MATTHEW SKILLETER top scored for GREYS GREEN as they eased to victory against EWELME on Sunday.

Ewelme, batting first, found it difficult to score quickly in their 35 overs due to the slow wicket and outfield. This accounted for opener Smith, when he looked to be well set for a good score and after that, all the batsmen struggled for fluency, allied to the fact that all the Greys Green bowlers put in tidy spells. Just when Ewelme were wanting to accelerate, their efforts were thwarted by Shafqat and Ahmed and their final total of 131-6 seemed vulnerable.

An opening spell from Harris left Greys Green at 2-2 and, for the first 20 overs of their reply, they were scoring at barely two an over.

Watchfulness from Skilleter and Shafqat allayed Greys Green’s worries and, towards the end, Skilleter hit out strongly, scoring regular boundaries. His match-winning innings of 66 came to an end just short of the target but he and Shafqat had put on a century partnership which, eventually, saw Greys Green home.
