MATT STEVENS hit his first ever century to help KIDMORE END defeat READING UNIVERSITY ALUMNI AND STAFF at Gallowstree Common on Sunday in a timed game.

Kidmore skipper Guy Ashby won the toss and elected to bat. Keeper batsman Zac Leonard quickly got to work with a rapid 17 runs but was dismissed early on with the score on just 33.

Jake Easton and Matt Stevens then batted well to put on 103 for the second wicket. Easton attacked anything short with great gusto and force striking six boundaries with impressive back foot shots. He scored a maiden 50 for the club before being run out.

Matt Stevens set about the bowling in the second half of the Kidmore innings. His sweeping and pull shots were impressive as he struck 11 fours and recorded his first ever century.

T Wilkinson chipped in with 17 not out as Kidmore End declared on 227-3.

The visitors had their own attacking force in M Zia who came out to bat all guns blazing and despite losing an early wicket to the spinning guile of G Ashby, RUAS pressed on. Zia scored a rapid 49, 40 of those runs coming in boundaries before Ashby’s flight finally induced a false shot and he was out caught Hayden for 49.

Hayden had a good day in his senior debut, picking up a wicket later in the innings after a tidy four over spell.

Jake Easton then blasted through the lower middle order, taking 4-25 from eight overs. Ingram ably supported him, taking 2-34. Despite some lower order resistance from Main who scored 33 not out, Kidmore took the last wicket with the score on 184 from 35.3 overs. KIDMORE END Z Leonard, b Zia
