Woodcote suffer home loss

WOODCOTE lost out at home to MORTIMER WEST END on Sunday.

WOODCOTE lost out at home to MORTIMER WEST END on Sunday.

The hosts batted first and got off to a good start as Anderson and Roberts put on 74 for the first wicket.

Mortimer’s bowling became tighter with the introduction of Bosley and Wijeratne as the scoring rate slowed considerably and four more wickets went down for the addition of only 35 runs.

An unbroken partnership of 54 between Aldridge and Worsfold off the last six overs saw the home team reach a respectable total but one that proved insufficient on a good wicket.

In reply Mark Pearson took a wicket in the very first over of the visitors’ reply while Connor Mattimore bowled well in his opening spell.

Bray played a solid innings against good spin bowling from Jaimee Jose and James Worsfold, and Nick Kingston survived two chances to see Mortimer home, despite a fine run out by Vijay Kumar and a good catch by stand-in wicket-keeper Adam Burgess.
