Big-hitting brothers pile on the runs

HIGHMOOR opening brother batsmen piled on the runs to help them defeat visitors FALKLAND on Sunday.

HIGHMOOR opening brother batsmen piled on the runs to help them defeat visitors FALKLAND on Sunday.

The hosts won the toss and D Stephens asked Falkland to bat and with the first ball of the game he bowled D Horn.

The home side bowled and fielded well during the first 14 overs with the skipper as miserly as ever and Owen Crawshaw getting some bounce on what was a good batting track.

The change of bowling brought instant success for Rausheed who knocked back the off stump of Townsend and at that stage Falkland were in trouble with almost half the team back in the pavilion for 56.

T Ridley, O Nethercott and Woods all got into the 30s and with breezy 22 from T Nethercott got the Falkland side to a respectable 180 from their 35 overs. This was not helped by some lacklustre fielding from Highmoor in the final 10 overs.

In reply brothers Rizmy and Shamil set about the bowlers with their normal flamboyant Sri Lankan way, smashing the ball to all parts, one straight six from Rizmy the pick of the shots.

The pair brought up the 100 partnership in just the 18th over and the 150 in the 23rd over.

With the scores level and Rizmy, who had hit two sixes and 13 fours, on strike needing two for his century he went for the big shot once more and was adjudged lbw. Shamil, who had hit a six and 12 fours, went on to hit the winning runs in the nine-wicket victory.
