WOODCOTE gained what looked an improbable victory in the annual match against touring OLD MERCHANT TAYLORS
WOODCOTE gained what looked an improbable victory in the annual match against touring OLD MERCHANT TAYLORS on Thursday of last week.
With the Merchant Taylors batting first, wickets were hard to come by all afternoon with Connor Mattimore proving the most successful bowler with 1-13, while the only other wicket-takers were Mike Stroker, Adam Burgess and James Worsfold.
The 209 total looked like a mountain to climb, but Rosco Weatherstone and Simon Fuller got the innings off to a good start with a 50 partnership.
Jonny Aldridge and Jez Mayo then had a torrid time getting the ball off the square and the run rate nosed above 10 an over. Once Mayo began to accelerate, with the help of some lusty blows by James Worsfold, Woodcote triumphed with an over to spare.
