Nicholson in fine form for Kites

PEPPARD STOKE ROW KITES continued their fine season with a 40-run win at home to TWIGWORTH on Sunday.

PEPPARD STOKE ROW KITES continued their fine season with a 40-run win at home to TWIGWORTH on Sunday.

The Kites were forced to rebuild after losing Gary Legg but the opener’s son Will and Chris Proudfoot steadied the innings.

Former Oxfordshire age group star Will Sandbach — extracting pace and bounce from the Peppard Common surface — accounted for the latter and Tom Woodward, who made a solid 24 before being out to a Yorker.

The hosts were rescued from posting a wholly underpar score by a sixth-wicket partnership between Olly Nicholson (54 from 35 balls) and Brett Everitt (33 not out from 29 balls), eventually reaching 190-6 from their 35 overs.

Will Legg and Hamish Scott made early inroads into the Twigworth line-up, the latter particularly frugal during a seven over spell of 1-18.

The introduction of young spinners Josh Perkins and Chris Humphreys maintained the pressure, before Chris Proudfoot took two wickets in his first three balls â?? the first the key wicket of Ed Sharp for 41.

Chris Filbey launched a late assault as Twigworth tried to rescue their cause, but Matt Ravden took two wickets in two balls to end the innings on 150, improving the Kites’ record to 13-2 this season.
