Greys move out of the slow lane

GREYS GREEN and HOLTON AND WHEATLEY were happy to take the field on Sunday, even though it was clear wicket and outfield would be sluggish.

Scoring was difficult for Holton in the face of some testing bowling from Ahmed and Rooke, and with some kamikaze running they were in difficulties at 52-5 halfway through their innings.

A seventh-wicket partnership of 29, between Switala (25) and Huggins (22) proved crucial in enabling their side to reach 116-9 at tea, with Ahmed the most successful bowler with 4-16.

Greys knew even that low total would not be easy despite a deceptively straightforward opening stand of 32 between Evans and Dennis.

On the drying wicket Greys were finding themselves behind the asking rate. At 79-6 Greys looked to be at risk of defeat but Cusden and Ahmed averted that and the game ended, perhaps surprisingly, in a low-scoring but ever-interesting draw.
