THE optimism of arranging a fixture in October was fully vindicated as WHITCHURCH entertained GREYS GREEN on Sunday in a match played out in autumnal sunshine.
Greys Green inserted the home team in this 35 overs contest and, for a while, the Chapman brothers seemed as if they would set a daunting target, as they rattled along towards 50 in only five overs.
The introduction of Skilleter brought immediate reward as he dismissed both in quick succession and changed the mood of the game as runs became hard to come by. Skilleter’s 4-10 and Shafqat’s two wickets in successive balls limited Whitchurch to 121-8 from their allotted overs.
Good bowling and a couple of early wickets brought Whitchurch back into the game but, with Cusden anchoring the innings and aggressive cameos from Lambert and Skilleter, Greys reached their target with overs to spare, despite leg-spinner Leach taking three quick wickets in his spell.
