Henley Standard
Best of the Week award.

Will Legg and Christian Whittaker picked up the John Searby Trophy at a dinner at the Bull in Bell Street on Thursday last week.

The Best of the Week competition runs throughout the season and records the number of times a batsman scores more than 50 runs or a bowler takes five or more wickets in weekend matches.

Legg and Whittaker both had 11 entries throughout the year. Legg, who had nine entries for Peppard Stoke Row and two for Henley 2nds, top-scored with 134 not out against Checkendon. Whittaker, who starred as Harpsden won the Chilterns League Division 3 with a 100 per cent record, making a best knock of 155 against Little Marlow.

They were joined on the night by Tony Searby, son of the late John Searby who the trophy is named after, and several former winners. Guest of honour Robert Treharne Jones, rowing commentator and Leander Club press officer, presented the trophy.

There was a total of 477 entries this year, up from 353 in 2014. Of these, 414 were for batting, including 65 centuries, and 63 for bowling.

The best figures were by Scott Taylor of Hurley, who hit an undefeated 177 against Fiddlers, while clubmate Naeem Akhtar took seven wickets for 14 runs against Braywood.
