THREE Henley Cricket Club players are named in the Berkshire squad to play Middlesex XI in a pre-season friendly at Falkland CC, near Newbury, on Sunday (11am) – weather permitting.
Michael Roberts will open the innings, while paceman Tom Nugent and spinner Euan Brock are both in the bowling attack.
But wicketkeeper Stewart Davison is ruled out as he is nursing a slight injury, which also applies to Henley newcomer Richard Morris.
Euan Woods, who has joined Henley from Wargrave, and Datchet’s new star signing, Chris Peploe, are both unavailable as they are on cricket duty in South Africa.
Andy Rishton, who left Reading during the close season, is one of four Finchampstead players named by Berkshire, along with Dan Marles, Callum Gregory and Billy Rogers.
All-rounder Rishton and paceman Gregory played for the county last season, while Rogers often filled the 12th man duties. But it is a first call-up for batsman Marles, who led Finchampstead to promotion to Division 1 of the Home Counties Premier League last season.
Following the heavy rain over the Easter weekend, the Falkland ground was wet this week, but groundsman Wilson Carlisle is working flat out in a bid to get the game played.
The full Berkshire squad is as follows: Michael Roberts (Henley), Waqas Hussain (Slough), Martin Andersson (Reading), Brandon Gilmour (Downend), James Morris (Datchet), Andy Rishton (Finchampstead), Dan Marles (Finchampstead), Billy Rogers (Finchampstead), Euan Brock (Henley), Sukhi Kang (Reading), Tom Nugent (Henley), Ollie Smithson (Datchet), Callum Gregory (Finchampstead).
