DESPITE the wet and cold conditions BBC CAVERSHAM were able to host GREYS GREEN on what was a damp and bowler friendly surface on Sunday.
Greys Green won the toss and decided to bowl and soon had the hosts in trouble with quick wickets for Ahmed and Shafqat reducing them to 9-3. BBC Caversham found the going slow and difficult as all Greys Green bowlers hit their lengths and gave little or nothing for the home team to put away.
Runs were slowly accumulated while wickets fell on a regular basis with only Ram making double figures for the home team. Adam Lubbock had a caught and bowled effort, plucking the ball out of the air at full stretch in his follow through.
BBC Caversham eventually completed their innings and were all out for what looked like a meagre 74.
The visitors knew they had performed well to keep the host total to below 100 but were concerned about the task ahead. Their fears were quickly realised as BBC took three wickets before Greys Green were able to add a run to the total. Shafqat and Dawkins steadied the ship with a stand of 29 with the latter acting as the main aggressor. Dawkins fell to a good catch in the deep as he attempted to up the scoring rate and at this point BBC Caversham were favourites to win the game. Lubbock had other ideas and took the fight to the hosts from ball one.
Shafqat did well to rotate the strike while Lubbock played a shot a ball innings to deliver Greys Green to their target with two overs to spare.
