DAN MAY starred with the bat as PEPPARD STOKE ROW KITES won a high-scoring thriller by 17 runs against NETTLEBED on Sunday.
The Kites made a fast start after winning the toss as Will Legg and Fergus Nutt showed their class, but after the latter edged behind of Lee Vockins and Legg hit a full toss to mid on, this hosts were 75-2.
Jake Leach was cleaned up by Vockins but U15 player May and Gary Legg steadied the ship with an excellent 95-run stand.
Legg was eventually caught and bowled by U13 player Owen Simmon while May was deprived of a well-deserved century when he hit a full toss to deep square leg while on 85.
Useful cameos by Pradeep Kumar and Dan Bacon ensured the Kites closed on 244-7 from their 35 overs.
Nettlebed were boosted by a quick-fire 55 from Matt Vines and a more sedate effort by captain Rob Simmons in reply, while Osman Ahmed smashed a rapid 44 to put the Kites under pressure.
However, the youthful Kites held their nerve in the field to record four run outs alongside wickets for Gary Legg, Nutt, Josh Smith, Leach and Ken Sullivan. Despite Lee Vockins’ best efforts with an unbeaten 32, Nettlebed could only reach 227-9 on a good batting track at Peppard Common.
