Ewelme short of target

OPENER James Knight hit 63 runs as hosts GREYS GREEN defeated EWELME on Sunday.

OPENER James Knight hit 63 runs as hosts GREYS GREEN defeated EWELME on Sunday.

Inserted to bat first in this 35 over game, Greys Green made a good start until Lambert was bowled off his pads. Knight continued scoring as he put on a half-century stand with Cusden, before the latter was run out.

When Knight was bowled for 63 by Harris, who was the pick of the Ewelme bowlers, and when Perry went exactly the same way, it was left to Shafqat and Pinhol to advance the final total to 205-5.

In reply Ewelme lost the early wicket of A Wood but Harris — first with Hickman and then with L Garbett — scored runs freely and seemed to be mounting a realistic challenge on a daunting target. However, when Lubbock induced errors from Harris and Garbett in quick succession their innings subsided rapidly, with debutant Playford capitalising with two wickets in his first over and finishing with 3-4. From 59-2, Ewelme had lost their remaining eight wickets for 21 runs and were all out for 80.
